Geng He’s Third Family Letter Exposes the Darkness Behind the Persecution
Geng He is the wife of well-known human rights lawyer
Gao Zhisheng. She published her third open letter to Gao.
In the letter, Geng said she is missing Gao
and is very worried about him.
She also pointed out that the Black Hand who persecutes Gao
Zhisheng illegally and separated her family is the Political and Judiciary Committee.
She said Chen Guangcheng’s success in achieving freedom
gives her hope and encouragement.
She will not give up pursuing freedom for Gao Zhisheng.
During the interview, Geng told NTD that she hopes people
in Mainland China can continually support and comfort Gao Zhisheng.
Geng He has escaped the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP)
control, and received asylum from the U.S. government.
Recently, she published her third open letter to her husband
Gao Zhisheng.
In the letter, she told Gao, “After thousands of difficulties,
(Chen) Guangcheng and his family have arrived to the U.S. on May 19.”
Excerpt from the letter: ”Without hearing your voice
and without any information of you, I am distraught every day and my heart is floating.”
Geng told NTD that since March 24, the last time that Gao’s
family saw him in Xinjiang Shaya prison, the prison telephone can’t receive calls.
Geng He: “Even with Gao Zhisheng in prison, he should
have basic rights.
At least he should have visitation rights every month,
or free communication with his brother, or be allowed to call his family once or twice.
But there’s no hope that he can have these rights.”
Geng He said that she had always wanted to know,
“what’s the problem? Who is behind this persecution?”
Through Chen Guangcheng’s case, she has figured out
the reason step by step.
She came to the understanding that the Political and Judiciary
Committee sent Gao Zhisheng to prison, and acted with evil intent without following any laws.
Geng He recalled a memory of a time when she was working
in Gao Zhisheng’s law office.
She received phone calls from Chai Lei frequently,
who was a leader of the Bar Association.
Gao Zhisheng was asked to go to Chai Lei’s office
for frequent questioning as well.
The Bar Association restricted Gao Zhisheng to take
big cases or so-called “sensitive” cases.
If he wanted to take such cases he had to get approval
from the Bar Association in advance.
Geng He: ”As a lawyer, he has the right to select which case
he wants to take. He is seeking fairness with the tool of law. This is his job.
The main role of a lawyer is defending his/her customers.
This is a right granted by the law.”
Gao Zhisheng defended Falun Gong practitioners
and Chinese petitioners. He was engaged in human rights’ activities.
But in December 2006, he was sentenced to three years in jail,
which was then extended to five years.
In February 2009, Gao Zhisheng was taken away
by the Chinese police from his hometown Shaanxi.
Since then, Gao’s whereabouts was unknown
until a brief appearance in March 2010.
Once again, in the following 20 months, Gao Zhisheng
went missing.
On January 1, 2012, Gao’s family received “notice of prison
entry” from Xinjiang Shaya prison saying that
he was detained in the Shaya prison, over 800km away
from the province capital, Urumqi.
On that day, Geng He wrote the first open letter to him,
and many netizens launched a trip to visit Gao Zhisheng in Xinjiang.
Sun Wenguang, a professor from Shandong University:
“He is innocent. He appealed for Falun Gong,
expressed the truth and asked for justice for Falun Gong.
These are kind and preciously brave behaviors.”
Sun Wenguang has been engaged in human rights’activities
for a long time as well.
He said the Political and Judiciary Committee is suppressing
people who are brave to stand up for justice, challenge the authority, and speak out about the truth.
It doesn’t allow anybody to expose their (CCP’s) atrocities,
and it wants to maintain the one-party dictatorship.
In 2005, Sun Wenguang and Gao Zhisheng went to Shandong
Linyi to visit Chen Guangcheng, but were beaten by the local National Security.
This time, when Sun was on a telephone interview, police
tracked him.
Sun Wenguang said that since June 4th is approaching,
he is being monitored every day.
Sun Wenguang: “Now there are people around me.
They followed me here. When I move, they will move.
When I turn around, they will turn around.
They sat beside me just now.
Because I’m on the phone call, I came to the corridor,
and they followed me here.”
Sun Wenguang said he is very sympathetic to the fact that
Gao Zhisheng and his family can’t be together.
He hopes all people stand up to urge Hu-Wen to redress
Gao Zhisheng’s case and restore his freedom.
Geng He hopes all the friends who are concerned for Gao
Zhisheng can write a letter to Gao frequently to show him support!
