Lip-Synching at CCTV Mid-Autumn Festival Gala
A lip-synching controversy has erupted in mainland China.
Some sharp-eyed netizens were suspicious of lip-synching
at the CCTV Mid-Autumn Festival Gala.
Taiwanese singer Fan Fan and mainland China diva Na Ying
were included on the netizens』 lip-synching list.
CCTV immediately issued an official denial,
stating that signal failure transpired while broadcasting via satellite,
and the altered transmission caused simultaneous delays.
Nevertheless, Hong Kong singer Alan Tam admitted in public
that he was really lip-synching that day in order to
meet the organizer』s requirements.
CCTV Mid-Autumn Festival Gala “lip-synch" controversy intensified.
Singer Alan Tam, Na Ying, Joey Yung and many other singers took part in the CCTV Mid-Autumn Festival Gala held in Jiangmen, Guangdong.
Some sharp-eyed audiences found out the singers were lip-synching on stage.
Some singers even “sang” the wrong lyrics.
In a radio interview, Alan Tam lamented that
he felt obligated to lip-synch.
Sitting next to Alan Tam, Carol Cheng asked him,
“there was no requirement to sing live?” Alan Tam said he had no choice.
He couldn』t request that, because the Mid-Autumn Festival Gala
is one of the two big CCTV shows. Nothing must go wrong.
The netizens said that when the singers Dao Lang and
Yun Duo performed the song “Love is You and Me,” their lips didn』t match the lyrics.
Wuhan’s “China" magazine reporter Liu Yiming said,
“Stars lip-synching is very common in China;
even in the Spring Festival Gala,
there are a lot of stars lip-synching as well.
Fake singing will cause great problems.
Once the precedent has been set, many people will follow suit. “
Since the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games opening ceremony
when 9 year-old Lin Miaoke lip-synched,
the CCP authorities ordered that all commercial activities
must be sung live.
On October 1, 2009, “Detailed Rules for the Implementation
of the Regulation on the Administration of Commercial Performance” was enforced.
According to the law, lip-synching and fake performing are
flagrant violations to the regulations, and the rights and interests of the audience.
Chinese lawyer Tiantian Lee said, “The regulation itself is a problem.
Since you perform singing, people buy tickets.
You tell them that I receive your money, I will sing for you,
rather than play tracked recording.
Banning fake singing is like forbidding lying.
It doesn』t need such a regulation.
It shouldn』t have such a regulation.
If there is one, it』s odd. “
The “Regulation" also states, “The actor can not lip-synch
to deceive the audience.
The organizers of the shows cannot organize
the performers to lip-synch.
Any unit or individual cannot provide conditions
for lip-synching.
The organizers should send someone to monitor
the show to prevent lip-synching."
The “Regulations" also include corresponding penalties.
Wuhan’s “China" magazine reporter Liu Yiming said,
“Beijing has a lot of regulations.
Regulations are good, but to really implement them
is not an easy job.
Like bigamy, in fact, there are too many people
committing bigamy, but none of them are sanctioned. “
The secretary of the State Administration of Radio Film and
Television (SARFT) Wang Taihua asked
CCTV to ban lip-synching in the conference for “Research
and deployment of CCTV 2009 Spring Festival Gala."
A few years later, fake singing is still rampant.
The SARFT never gives tickets to the CCTV』s “Spring Festival Lip-Synching Gala.”
Wuhan “China" magazine reporter Liu Yiming said,
" Lip-synching happens every year, but no stars are punished.
However, it』s different in Hong Kong.
If a star in Hong Kong lip-synchs,
even though there are no regulations to punish him or her,
the result will be serious,
because Hong Kong is a society which believes in trust.
If the star is distrusting, he won』t have a market there.”
Facing widespread doubt, the CCTV gave its explanation,
but the singers all admitted that they did, in fact, lip-synch.
It seems that the more the CCTV explains,
the more self-contradictory it becomes.
