當地時間7月13日下午6點多，美國前總統川普（特朗普）在賓夕法尼亞州發表競選演講時，遭到槍擊，面部流血。
日本首相岸田文雄14日透過社群平台X發表聲明表示，「我們必須堅決對抗挑戰民主的暴力行為，並祈禱川普前總統早日康復。」

川普受傷後被迅速送往當地醫院，傷情並未危及生命。他隨後透過社群媒體表示，子彈擊中他右耳上方，「我立刻感覺到子彈穿過了皮膚。大量出血，所以我意識到發生了什麼。上帝保佑美國！」
稍早前，美國總統拜登（Joe Biden）發布聲明表示，很高興聽到川普安全且狀況良好。「在我們等待進一步資訊之際，我為他和他的家人以及所有參加集會的人禱告」。
拜登說，他與第一夫人吉兒（Jill Biden）很感謝特勤局把川普帶到安全的地方。美國不允許這種暴力行為。「我們必須團結起來譴責（這個行為）」。
